The Look & Taste of Simple Ingredients

plain yogurt

Why does our yogurt look a little different? It’s because of the simple ingredients in our yogurt.

We make our yogurt the way we like to eat it, with simple, health giving ingredients that we can pronounce! Because of this, sometimes our yogurt may not have the same look and consistency you have come to expect with commercial brands of yogurt.

You might have even noticed that there’s a little bit of water in your container of Coconut Grove Yogurt, either surrounding the yogurt or on the inside of the lid.

Because our ingredients are simple and all natural, with no fillers or artificial chemicals or preservatives, you’re seeing the result of a natural separation process when the yogurt cools and sets. It’s called “syneresis”, and because we don’t add extra constituents to remove it, you’ll sometimes find it in your yogurt.

The water is clean, filtered and most likely contains plenty of the health boosting yogurt cultures and probiotics used to set and create our creamy coconut milk yogurt.

So next time you open your yogurt, be assured that you are receiving the cleanest and healthiest of natural, non-dairy yogurt on the market!

      Hi Julie,
While Coconut Grove is not yet kosher certified, we are researching what will be required to gain kosher certification and will announce that accomplishment once it has been completed.

      Hi Tanja,

We don’t send samples to individual outlets as we have a sales force that does that in the geographic areas where Coconut Grove is presently distributed. For now, we have distribution in California, the Northwest, the Midwest and the central portion of the Northeast. – and we consistently offer Coconut Grove to the other regions where we don’t yet have placement. The remaining regions in our industry are Rocky Mountain, Southwest, Southeast, Florida, Mid-Atlantic and North Atlantic.

If your location is outside the areas we presently service, while it would be great for you to want to carry Coconut Grove, until we have distribution in your area, you would not be able to carry it on an ongoing basis.

      I hope that helps.

Grabbed one at Whole Foods the other day but wish I had read your site first, I was a little put off by the color and texture of the product. More like brown jello than yogurt.

      Hi Debbie,
The Vanilla definitely has a different color than most Vanilla yogurts out there. As you probably read, it’s because we use real, organic vanilla bean and organic coconut sugar, which is a bit like a mild brown sugar. Hopefully the taste, flavor and quality of ingredients make up for any cosmetic differences you notice.

Also, we are continually refining our recipe and you may notice now that the consistency is much creamier.

I am on the Paleo sometimes Primal diet and your yogurt fits PERFECTLY into my diet. I have been eating it for quite sometime now. I have one topped with Julian Bakery’s Coconut Cereal along with bee pollen and honey.
There is nothing in these yogurts that are not allowed on my diet and I appreciate that very much! THANK YOU for that! Often I have found soy or rice ingredients in other products made with coconut but that is not allowed on the paleo or primal diet. I will continue to eat one a day!
I notice less of the liquid in this last one I ate. Have you recently refined or changed the recipe?

All yogurts experience “syneresis” which is the expression of liquid from the body of the yogurt. We try to keep that process to a minimum and thus continually “tweak” our production process to limit it as much as possible. Thus, how long it’s held in the incubator, how quickly it’s cooled, at what pH it’s pulled, etc, all have an affect on the final product. I hope that helps explain your question- but if not, please feel free to reply.”

      Hi Kaitlyn,
We have presented Coconut Grove to the Florida maraket thru the Whole Foods regional office – but until they accept it, we cannot gain a foothold in the market becuase the key distributor – UNFI – will not take on new products without having Whole Foods as one of the retail stores that carry it.

      Hi Miriam,
Coconut Grove yogurt can be used in all the same ways that other types of yogurt can be used – smoothies, with cereals, as a snack, with fruit, etc. With all the probiotics available in Coconut Grove yogurt, it will feel good to your system too – and it’s made with organic coconut milk!

      Hi Miriam,
We do our utmost to produce a creamy looking, creamy tasting and utterly delicious product, but it may not “look” the way you migh like. I hope you try it and discover that “looks can be deceiving” as the taste and texture are truly delicious.

      Hi June,
While I do not have a list of all the stores that carry Coconut Grove, I do know that most of the Whole Foods stores carry it – and there are also now a number of independent retailers that also carry Coconut Grove yogurt. I hope you’re able to find it at your local store – but if not, please be sure to have them order it thru the major distributor in that area – UNFI.

Is your plain cultured coconut milk vegan?

      Hi Larry,
While all of our main ingredients are vegan, we have not been able to find a culture that is grown on a non-dairy base. Thus, although it’s an extremely small portion of the final product, we cannot use the term vegan for our yogurt. I fully support the vegan approach and we will continue to search for a vegan culture for Coconut Grove.

      Hi Christina,
Here is the link to our website that lists our ingredients for the Plain. I hope that it can be eaten by your son as I can understand how hard it must be to find foods that he can accept. We don’t have a way to send you a sample, but if you email me (steve@coconutgroveyogurt.com) your mailing address, I can send you some free coupons.

We do not ship direct due to high costs and difficult transit. You zip code indicates Indiana, PA which is not presently serviced by the main distributor – UNFI. We have presented to the Whole Foods regional office for your area but they have not yet accepted Coconut Grove. And the distributor will not pick up our product without Whole Foods approving it. I hope that helps explain things – and thanks for your question.
